With SummerSlam weekend around the corner, we’re going to dive in first with NXT Women’s Championship with the history of the story and how I would book it.
NXT Takeover: Brooklyn 4
Shayna Baszler (c) vs. Kairi Sane. This match is the rematch from the Mae Young Classic 2017. Let’s make a trip through memory lane and genuinely appreciate the excellent story that we are being told. This feud has been going on for almost a year, and it started when Sane defeated Shayna Baszler in the MYC tournament finals and earning herself a shot at the vacant NXT Women's Championship. However in November, at NXT TakeOver: WarGames, Sane was failed in winning the NXT Women's Championship. Later in December, while Sane was trying to challenge Ember Moon for the title, Shayna Baszler made her NXT television debut by attacking Sane from behind and putting her in a chokehold. Can we say night, night?
With Baszler making some heavy noise throughout the weeks, she caught the attention of the current NXT Women’s Champion Ember Moon. Baszler defeated Moon at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans on April 7, by submission to become the new NXT Women’s Champion. Since then, Baszler has been dominate and unstoppable in this new era of the Women’s division in NXT. Fast Forward to July when Sane defeated Candice LeRae and Nikki Cross in a triple threat match to become the number one contender for the NXT Women's Championship for SummerSlam.
It’s no surprise that NXT is the better show overall. What WWE was able to do here is create a meaningful story that took time to build. The Queen of Spades has taken over the Women’s division and is a force to be reckoned with. Her submission holds are lethal, and with her cockiness attitude, it makes a great story against the underdog Sane. Let's not underestimate Kairi Sane either. Sane uses her in-ring ability to show us why actions speak louder than words. She is feisty, tough and has a wicked elbow drop that will make any Macho Man Randy Savage fan proud!
However, I honestly don't see the title changing hands at SummerSlam. How I would book, this is by having Baszler retain the title at NXT Takeover; Brooklyn. Baszler still has much to do in NXT as the champion including, a future feud with Candice LeRae. We also have Nikki Cross in the picture, and she’s been in the shadows looking for her time to become the next NXT Women’s Champion. Now it’s the time to continue these rivals and build up to October’s WWE ALL Women’s PPV: Evolution. A fatal four way for the NXT Women’s Championship Shayna Baszler (c) vs. Nikki Cross vs. Candice LeRae vs. Kairi Sane.
Where do you see the NXT Women’s Division heading? Do you feel that Baszler will retain her title or do you think that the Pirate Princess will take the championship away from the Queen of Spades?
Let me know your thoughts and feedback! Til next time folks thanks for reading!
