So SummerSlam came and gone. Overall it seemed to be a good show, it definitely had it's up and downs. I wanted to write up a @ATWrestlingBlog review of some of this years SummerSlam, and here it is.
Intercontinental Championship Seth Rollins vs (C) Dolph Ziggler
The show started off hot. Putting Seth vs Dolph in the opening match was smart. These two have put on several great matches when given the time, and this match didn't disappoint. So many good moves and great spots. And of course you had the returning Dean (who many thought would turn heel) on the outside. Both Drew and Dean didn't play a huge roll in the outcome here as Seth recaptured the IC title. Match was decently long and finished with one of my favorite finishers, the stomp.
Winner: Rollins via pin

Smackdown Tag Titles
New Day vs (C) Bludgeon Brothers
I came into this match thinking the New Day would walk out champions. Big E and Woods wrestled for the New Day here. The match was good, enjoyable, but had a horrible ending. The New Day won by DQ when Rowan used one of their mallets. Now if they wanted to make BB look flustered then the DQ makes sense. It's the first time we've seen this on these monsters, so Tuesday will tell us a lot more!
Winner: New Day via DQ

Money In The Bank Contract:
(H) Braun Strowman vs Kevin Owens
This match was very short. Braun destroyed KO. The best part of this match was the "KO In The Bank" shirt.
Winner: Braun via pin

Smackdown Womans Championship
Charlotte Flair vs Becky Lynch vs (C) Carmella
This match was a lot better than I thought. It had many good spots. To me, Carmella stepped up her game and put on a good show. Through the match we were teased Becky and Charlotte. Overall it was a good match. I didn't expect Charlotte to win this one, but what happened after made it worth it. We can only assume that Becky turned heel here. She jumped Charlotte and didn't look that happy. The fans popped big time for this. As did I.
Winner: Charlotte Flair via pin

WWE Championship Samoa Joe vs (C) AJ Styles
This match was fantastic. Easily one of my favorites of the night. AJ and Joe made us forget about the boring storylines prior to Joe stepping in. We saw it all, great moves and a fun match to watch, even a Styles Clash on the big man. This match was fun and just as you think they couldn't step it up more, Joe got on the table and looked to AJ's wife saying "I made you a promise daddy was coming home. It looks like he's not, but I'll be your new daddy." Wow. When we heard that AJ snapped. Jumping Joe, taking out ring workers, destroying Joe. AJ ended up getting DQ'ed as he started pounding Joe with a chair. This feud got so personal and is going to be fantastic to see carried on!
Winner: Joe via DQ

Daniel Bryan vs The Miz
As we expected, this match delivered. It was everything we expected. Trading copy cat moves, punches to the face, submission moves, cheating. It was great. I really hope they keep the feud going till Wrestlemania. Who knows maybe a title could get involved. Anyways, Miz ended up hitting DB in the head with a foreign object he got from Maryse. This got Miz the quick pin. It was well done. Matches with so much storytelling like this is what makes wrestling great.
Winner: Miz via pin

Finn Balor vs Baron Corbin
I didn't expect myself to pop for this match, but I did. Why? Well because Finn didn't show up... no, no... because The Demon King did! That's right, I marked out for the much anticipated return of Finn's alter ego. Finn pretty much dominated this match. Big win on a big stage.
Winner: The Demon King via pin

US Championship
Jeff Hardy vs (C) Shinsuke Nakamura
I honestly forgot about this match till it popped onto my screen. I didn't expect much but this match was decent. The standout moment was definitely the Jeff Swanton Bomb onto the ring apron. This moment took the breath away from everyone watching. Shin ended up retaining here.
Winner: Shinsuke Nakamura via pin

RAW Womans Championship
Ronda Rousey vs (C) Alexa Bliss
I found this match boring and predictable. Very predictable. It was really all Ronda and just a dull match overall. Ronda made Alexa tap out and won her 1st Championship in WWE.
Winner: Ronda Rousey via submission

Universal Championship
Roman Reigns vs (C) Brock Lesnar
This match started off with the typical boos for Roman and Brock. It had that feel that it could quickly go south. That was until Braun's music hit and the place went crazy! Braun came into the ring and announced that he won't cash in behind someone's back, he will always do it face fo face. The match started quick, lots of Superman punches and typical moves from both Roman and Brock. The entire time Braun stood outside the ring staring down both guys. Well as the match moved on Roman ended up taking Braun out by flying outside of the ring. Then Brock took Braun out with a F5 and several chair shots. Brock tossed the MITB case all the way to the top of the ramp and went back into the ring only to he met with a spear and a 1 2 3. New champ after 504 days of Brock. Overall this match was boring and Braun standing at ringside kept the fans and chants in place. It also stopped fans from leaving early. Oh, no cash in from Braun also. The match needed more wrestling and action, it didn't deliver.
Winner: Roman Reigns via Pin

Overall I thought the show was good. It was definitely better than Extreme Rules. If Main would give time to its stars to put on a show it would get more attention. Look at NXT, TakeOver has been fantastic, every year. Both the RAW mens and womans main events needed more wrestling and storytelling. But as I said I enjoyed the night even with being left feeling empty after the Main Event.
Thanks for reading and feedback welcome as always!
